Helping the Hungry

"...and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness and your night will become like noonday." - Isaiah 58:10, NIV

One key mission focus at HBC is reaching out to local families who suffer from hunger. Not in Annapolis, you say? Despite the fact that we live in one of the wealthiest states in the country, one in eight households is considered "food insecure." HBC volunteers reach out to these households through our Food Pantry and Backpack Buddies programs.

Backpack Buddies

Since 2009, The HBC Backpack Buddies program has worked with Georgetown East and Mills Parole Elementary Schools to help children in need. The idea is simple: many students who rely on free or reduced cost breakfast & lunch during the school week are not getting enough food to eat over the weekends. The schools identify students in need and each week during the school year, HBC volunteers pack and deliver ready-to-eat foods for those students to carry home Friday afternoon. Want to help us make a difference? You can volunteer to pack or deliver backpacks, provide needed food items, or simply make a monetary gift to this program. For more information, contact the program coordinator through the church office at 410.263.6680
